The Imposition Of Taste

No one asked this time, but I’m going to tell you anyway, so there. This is what I’m listening to right now.

Fight Test – Flaming Lips: Especially the cut Thank You Jack White (For the Fiber-Optic Jesus That You Gave Me)

Master of Reality – Black Sabbath: Thick as molasses, slow as death, sad as reality.

Attack & Release- The Black Keys: While Danger Mouse did get the lads to ease up a bit on the throttle, the music remains classic Americana, stripped of pretty much everything not completely necessary.

The Donnas – The Donnas: As the Donnas have grown up, learned to play their instruments, discovered song craft, and gotten some ideas…I’ve completely lost interest. This record is stupid and mean and badly done in the best possible way.

Resevoir Dogs Soundtrack: A gonzo classic. Stephen Wright is the world’s most mellow DJ, the tracks include Harry Nilsson, Joe Tex, and the immortal Blue Suede. The best known track is, of course, by Stealers Wheel and is used in one of the most grisly, sadistic scenes Quentin has ever done.

Look Sharp – Joe Jackson: A nearly perfect pop album. Subversive, snarky, sad, funny, and catchy as all hell.

Sacrament – Lamb of God: Subtle like a landslide and perhaps the key reason that the Christian Rock guitar hero was created.

Just Another Band From East LA – Los Lobos:

Este amor apasionado
anda todo alborotado por volver.
Voy camino a la locura
y aunque todo me tortura, sé querer.

Nos dejamos hace tiempo
pero me llegó el momento de perder.
Tú tenías mucha razón;
Le hago caso al corazón
Y me muero por volver.
Y volver volver volver
a tus brazos otra vez;
Llegaré hasta donde estés;
Yo sé perder, yo sé perder;
Quiero volver, volver, volver.

Translation:

This impassioned love
goes on, compelling me to return;
I’m on the road to madness
and although everything tortures me,
I know how to love.

We parted ways some time ago
But the moment of loss arrived.
You had every reason;
I heed my heart
And I’m dying to return.

And to return, to return, to return
To your arms again
I will arrive where you are
I know how to lose, I can take it
I want to return, return, return.

    The Donnas? Are you kidding? They suck more and more with every release. The release you linked to, one of their first, is about the only thing by them I can listen to.

    They’re just bad bad bad bad.

    I think we’re in agreement here. :)
