History

November 29, 2007

bin and I took in some Nevada (nə-vād’ə) history yesterday. Fort Churchill was open from 1860 to 1870, mostly to discourage the locals from taking potshots at the increasing streams of folks looking for gold and silver. It’s a pretty cool place to visit, with factual (if a bit snarky) signs that describe each building. While the enlisted guys got dirt floors and crowded bunks, the officers got a house with two bedrooms, sitting area and kitchen. Heh.

Right down from the old fort is a lovely, and very secluded, little camping area. Delightful.
