Read a fascinating article on the Chinese MMORPG ZT Online. Link

The folks behind the game have come up with a way to get rid of the “grind” of regular MMORPGs. Instead of grinding to gain experience and equipment, you can simple buy it. No muss, no fuss. The results are pretty damn interesting from a purely capitalistic point of view. Dig the article….

Interesting. I’ve never played any MMORPGORPGORGYMMOPRORGOREG games yet… but fwiw, the idea of “grinding levels” by killing bats/hobbits/retarded gnomes/whatfuckingever repeatedly is an almost non-starter. So, the idea that you can just join and buy you way in is interesting… except of course that that does set up a certain elitism due to cost.

The other unattractive thing about these games is that you’re in a world with 1000s of others but everyone wants to be a jedi/deity/max-level… so, if everyone can be a jedi… wtf is so special about jedi?

I’m not sure how you do these games right… or maybe better said, how you do these in a way that appeals to me…
